We recently asked a big question: What role should AI play in the world of dating? More than 30,000 ROMEOs took part in our AI survey, and we want to start with a huge thank you!
Your answers are currently being analyzed, and we’ll publish the full results soon.
Since the survey was our main focus, our included AI-generated Romeo & Julio video maybe did not get the attention, and many users missed it. That’s why we’re dedicating today’s post to it, to explain how we made it, why we made it, and where we’re going next.
👉 Please watch it now on YouTube. And if you like it, Romeo, Julio, and we would not mind if you gave us a like or a share.
We’re not blond, we know AI is like atomic energy: powerful, and depending on how we use it, it can build or destroy. That’s why we approach it with care, that’s why we made the survey at all. This video is our way of showing how AI can be used positively, a tool that allows us to do things we could never do before: like bringing Romeo to life as the timeless symbol of passion, love, and freedom, just without the tragic ending (please!).
How We Made the Video
Let us explain in non-nerdy words how it works. The overall method is named “Text to Video”, where you simply describe in a text (prompt) what happens in the video. Maybe best compared to how you would tell a blind person what you see.
Wanna check out the prompt text, click here to expand the text below:It’s 10:00 AM in the year 1500, in the heart of Verona’s…
… wealthy district, between the grand palace buildings and the bustling marketplace. The stone road is blocked by a dense group of nobles and townspeople — men and women dressed in luxurious fabrics, faces hardened with anger and judgment. The camera glides slowly through the crowd in close-up, passing face after face: Furrowed brows. Tight jaws. Eyes full of disapproval. Some whisper. Others stare directly ahead, defiant.
In the distance, the two riders approach on white horses. The camera shifts — a close-up of a sword being raised, silent and deliberate. Then, something shifts. One by one, the expressions of the people begin to change. Eyes widen. Mouths soften. Anger gives way to awe, then to reluctant respect.
Without a word, the people begin to move. First a step. Then another. Velvet skirts and heavy coats sway as the crowd silently parts. The road ahead is slowly revealed — a clear path of stone framed by the walls of noble buildings, now open to the riders.
The camera pulls back gently, showing the once-blocked road now empty and waiting — a passage earned through defiance and dignity. Everything is in slow motion. The only sound is breath and wind.
There are already many websites that provide such a service, in our case, we used VEO3 from Google. It’s one of the first platforms that lets us create spoken dialogue in AI-generated videos. VEO3 is generating up to 4 video options for a prompt. The costs are in high quality 400 Credits which translate in 3 Euros.
For the music, we used Suno, where similarly you define your music and lyrics, and AI will create the songs.
Another nasty limitation is that videos can have a maximum length of 8 seconds. This means our love song consists of 31 video clips. In the end, all the short clips were added together in a typical video editing software.
For each clip, you have to write a sometimes long prompt. To be able to do so, we used another AI tool like ChatGPT to generate them. If someone had told us a few years ago that we’d need one AI to manage another AI, we would have had a good laugh. 😂
AI is prudish and not funny
Even innocent scenes, like Romeo lying alone in bed with a bare chest, were rejected as “sexual content.” It shows how prudish the tech world still is when it comes to combining AI and sexuality, a drama we’ll probably see much more of in the future 😡
The script and ideas still come from us humans. We’ve already noticed that AI is so politically correct, the jokes and ideas often end up being pretty lame. And we’re used to pushing boundaries, think dark humor.
Another challenge: character consistency. You may have noticed Romeo’s face is similar but kept changing a bit between scenes. Even to accomplish that, we used a method called frame-to-video, where we have the initial image and the video continues from there. It keeps the face at least similar, but the visual quality drops, you may have noticed it between scenes.
The Series Is Coming
We admit – the current video is pure hardcore romance. It’s for every Romeo out there looking for love.
But let’s be real: life isn’t always that romantic. That’s why we’re working on a series, split into episodes like a show. And let’s just say… it’s less a fairy tale, more like real life: a tragicomedy.
Well, it should not be a big surprise in our context that it will not be Juliet. Will it be Julio?
Spoilers ahead: We can already tell you that the love song will not be the end of the series. 🎉
Btw, some users told us correctly that the Italian version would be Giulio. Point taken 🙃
We will make him Spanish and explain what he is doing in Italy 🤔
The first episode of the Romeo & Julio series will premiere in October, right on time for our birthday.
Until then, if you haven’t seen the love song video yet,
👉 Please watch it now on YouTube
And if you like it, Romeo, Julio we would not mind if you gave us a like or a share.
Best greetings,
Your Romeo Team
