What Are You Woofin’ at?

To celebrate international ‘Puppy Day’ recently, we took a trip to one of our favourite fetish stores, Mister B in Amsterdam to learn about puppy play. Woof!

Becoming-Puppy

Woof!

Puppy play is more than just a fetish, it is a form of self-expression. “It starts with finding the right hood,” says Frank from Mister B. “This is where you’re going to discover what your puppy personality is.” It’s true, hoods have their own language. For example, a hood with upright ears could signify a playful, hyperactive pup.

There is more to finding your inner pup than just wearing a hood or a mask, though. Think collars, harnesses, puppy paw mitts, chains, socks, and colourful dog tail buttplugs.

The dog tails vary in colour and size, and some even emulate specific dog races.

As colour code is so prominent in gear, does it matter within the puppy community? Not so much, although the traditional ‘hanky colour codes’ could come into play, the more common purpose of using colour is to create an appealing aesthetic and identity.

Puppy Tales

Puppy culture is growing, and that is evident on social media. There are many ROMEO Groups dedicated to puppy communities such as Puppies Deutschland and Puppy Play France.

We spoke to ROMEO’s Pup Asko – an eager pup who is itching to let us into his world. Let’s see what he had to say about being a puppy:

How long have you been into the puppy scene – and how did you get your start?

I’ve been a pup for quite some time now, I can’t recall the exact beginnings since it turned out to be a smooth transition from sub to pup. It started with a mask and ended with me having a handler and feeling comfortable in my role as a puppy.

What role do you take on in puppy play?

I consider myself a beta-pup. Always ready to not only serve doms but alpha pups as well. This stands in contrast to omegas who are the most submissive kind without any versatile traits.

What is your favourite thing about being a pup?

What I like most about being a puppy is having my pack. The bond I developed with my handler and my fellow pups reaches deep. Although there is a lot of sexuality involved, I can always trust them to have my back when needed. Not every puppy belongs to a pack and therefore I cannot speak for others in this regard.

Do you have a puppy ‘philosophy’?

There is no philosophy as a pup in particular that I would live by. I rather see it as an extension of my submissive identity and therefore as an important part of my lifestyle.

To all pups and pups-to-be, we wish you a Happy belated Puppy Day!
